Backpacking again!

I first became interested in South East Asia, especially Malaysia, when I read Somerset Maugham's short stories based upon his own experiences of travelling in that region in the early 1900's. Having spent the last four years living like a hermit in France, the need to go out and travel became ever more attractive and SEA seemed like an obvious place to go. When I was told about Workaway and cheap backpacking Hostels the possibility of travelling on a very tight budget became a reality.

Back again in Istanbul!

After 50 years I returned to Istanbul and if my memory is correct the hostel is, or is close to, the hostel where I originally stayed. Fortunately this old part of the city has avoided to a large extent the modernisation that has taken place elsewhere, there are still the wide open spaces, beautiful parks and Mosques and friendly warm hearted people who will quite happily stick 50% on the price of an article or service but generally wouldn't dream of stealing your bike!
